A blog that revolves around anything and everything Horse Racing. Mostly current stuff. With the occasonal reference to older horses. But mostly a place to post comments about races and lots of pictures.

And They're Off~

Sometimes I hate Scheduling

The Haskell is on the 27th of July. Do you know what else is happening that weekend? Comic Con. As in the big one in San Diego. As in the convention I have been planning to attend for months now (because you have to plan this months in advance if you really want to do it).

As in not only is the post time smack dab in the middle of the convention. But now I am going to have to fight the extremely questionable data service to watch it. -smacks head against desk in frustration-

California Chrome did not run badly.

webuiltthepyramids:

He was right there.  There were just lots of horses right there.

But damn, I’m disappointed.

Especially considering we now know Matterhorn stepped on his hoof coming out of the gate. That was a really good run all things considered.

postparade:

If you’re running around saying I told you so about California Chrome

  1. ok u were right cool cool
  2. When did you become so jaded that shaming others’ unabashed enthusiasm for this sport became more fun than sharing in their hope and disappointment?

Haskins reporting Chrome grabbed a quarter. That would explain quiet a bit. Including Victors comments that he didn’t feel the same leaving the gate.

Hour and counting behind but we should be leaving for Newark soon for our trip to New York. This has been a very long trip to plan and to get here. But my god we are almost there.

California Chrome, from pre-Derby to now, pre-Belmont.

Look at the difference in the colt! If anyone says that he doesn’t thrive on his job, I’m showing them these pictures.

It’s all muscle, baby.

I had noticed it appeared that way since the last time I had seen him in April. Just by the looks of it in the videos I was seeing. But man it’s fun to see a side by side comparison.

Belmont Post Positions and Odds

1. Medal Count 20-1
2. California Chrome 3-5
3. Matterhorn 30-1
4. Commanding Curve 15-1
5.Ride on Curlin 12-1

Seeing the Belmont might be a bit complicated this year. And here’s why:

Post time for the Belmont is set for 6:52 EST.

Guess when the Stanley Cup is supposed to start? 7 PM EST.

I trust NBC as far as I can throw them. Which is nowhere. So yeah um I would expect maybe get to see the race and then switch to the . Especially since most of the time races DO NOT start on time.

Good luck to NBC on this one because one way or the other they are going to have some mad as hell fans. I can tell you that.

I am really, really glad I am going to be at Belmont this time.

I saw a tweet from someone at DRF about how NBC has to switch to the Stanley Cup by 7:15.  So maybe they’re allowed, or something, to run a little over if the race is late/California Chrome wins?  I dunno.

Probably. But I don’t trust hockey fans to not complain about something interrupting their schedule considering their reaction to something that was life threatening interrupting a game.

I mean this is the same lot of fans who complained over a tornado warning interrupting their game where I live. I kid you not. If they complained about that they will complain to high heaven about a horse race.

Look I get not all hockey fans are going to complain. But considering what happened the last time they got their game pushed/interrupted. I don’t trust them to be patient or realize that the racing is going to wrap up very shortly.

ETA: Also I just checked Belmont’s racing schedule. Normally for a TC race their is 1 1/2 hours between the last major race and the TC leg. It’s 2 hours and 10 minutes for Belmont exactly. Their is really no reason for this race to be going off almost at 7 pm. We could very easily be going off at 6:30. -sighs-
